This walnut chest projects an understated beauty with reeding one either side of the drawers and turned feet. On first glance, it appears similar to many Sheraton style chests throughout the East Coast from the early 1800s, but the feet tell a more detailed story. The stacked rings with a gap before another single ring and the smaller, slightly flattened ball of the foot are a design influence from Richmond, Virginia. Furniture makers around Central Virginia from Fredericksburg out to Lynchburg adopted this style as well. The poplar and yellow pine secondary woods are consistent with Virginia furniture, supporting that claim.
Whether you are appreciate the charm of its simple beauty or feel a connection to its Virginia origin, this piece is ready for regular use, adding warmth to any space.
