Made in Japan from turned wood with individually painted faces and colorful decoration. The four distinct figures include traditional Japanese-inspired dress, scenic imagery and calligraphic decoration. Kokeshi originated as wooden folk dolls and souvenirs in Japan; creative kokeshi flourished after WWII as artists explored more varied forms, colors and subjects. Their tiny scale makes this group especially appealing for a curio cabinet, shelf, Japanese décor collection or MCM display. Unsigned.
