The composition depicts an enthroned ruler surrounded by attendants and guards, with additional rows of armed figures below. The imagery closely recalls the royal audience and guard reliefs associated with Persepolis, translated here into richly worked copper.

The design was formed in relief from the reverse and further detailed from the front with extensive hand chasing and incised decoration. The reverse clearly shows evidence of the repoussé work and retains a simple soldered copper hanging loop.

The copper has developed a wonderfully varied, naturally aged surface with deep brown and reddish tones, darker oxidation, and scattered areas of blue-green verdigris. It has been left unpolished to preserve this character.
