A rare Victorian swivel piano stool manufactured by the Melvin Bancroft Company of Lowell, Massachusetts, circa 1890. The stool bears its original “Melvin Bancroft, Lowell, MA” maker marking on the metal seat base flange.
The solid hardwood base features beautifully turned legs with a deep, rich historic patina, four ornate cast-iron claw feet, and original translucent glass ball feet. The heavy cast-iron screw mechanism operates smoothly, allowing the seat to swivel and adjust from 18" to 21" in height.
Originally made for use at a piano or parlor organ, this distinctive piece also works beautifully as a vanity stool, accent seat, or decorative occasional piece.
Minor superficial scratches and age-related surface wear to the wood. The original glass ball feet show age-appropriate scuffs on the bottoms from use. No structural cracks, splits, or repairs.
