Terrific Bronze figure of the Nile River god, marble figure in the Vatican Museum; the original is thought to be from the 1st - 2nd century BC. 98" tall, discovered in Rome in 1512. This bronze is an 18th-century Grand Tour bronze. A celebration of the Nile and its fertility ( 16 children) the plinth is covered in animal life: hippos, crocs, elephants, and lions in combat. The Bronze is mounted on a plinth of black slate and Yellow Sienna marble. The measurements are: bronze height 6.25"; length 10.6". Depth: 5"; marble plinth height 3.25", length 12",and depth 6.5"
