A Space Age Barber Pole!
Amazing and entirely original metal four section retail sign.
Mid 20th C., fashioned to be the top of a flag pole or similar stand.
Rocket form - with rounded center and conical top.
Red white and blue color way, offering the link to the traditional Barber Pole aesthetic with a bit of atomic style - think tail fins and turquoise.
Includes a rope pulley built into the bottom of the pole, perhaps to help raise flags or banners which would have been under this "cap" on the pole.
41" tall, 7" diameter in center.
Incredible folk art feel, still very sturdy and entirely original.

When being this for the first time, my husband simply said "George Jetson would have loved this!"
This is just a cool artifact. Wonderful color, perfect patina of use, interesting construction and story.
We have it hanging with a collection of other wonderful retail signs and examples of handpainted directionals in our weekend cottage. It's the first one people ask about when they walk in that room - every time.
Hmmm...it would be amazing on a porch or patio...on a studio or office dependency...have fun with this one!
