Artistry & DesignThis bottle-neck vase features Miyagi’s signature deep cobalt blue and vibrant green copper glaze accents, beautifully framing a deeply incised, hand-carved fish motif (gamon). The dynamic, expressive fish design is an iconic Okinawan symbol of prosperity and a hallmark of her family's lineage. The raw, textured unglazed stoneware sections contrast beautifully with the glossy Okinawan glazes. The underside bears her hand-incised studio mark, "Miya" (宮).

Pedigree & ProvenanceSumiko Miyagi was the eldest daughter of Jiro Kinjo (金城次郎), Japan's historic first Okinawan artisan to be named a "Living National Treasure." Having studied directly under her legendary father, her work beautifully preserves the spirited, lively carving techniques that made the Kinjo family name famous worldwide.
