This is a beautiful vintage, handmade box with beautifully carved African animal details. This box is in very good gently used vintage condition. Would look great on a shelf or to hold your jewellery or treasures

This hand-carved olive wood basket from Zimbabwe features intricate depictions of African safari animals like elephants and leopards. Origin: Zimbabwe, often featuring "Big Five" African animal motifs. Typically crafted from light brown olive wood or Kiaat wood. Often used as a decorative table centerpiece, jewelry box, or storage container.

Carved from solid wood, this piece has a warm natural tone and a tactile, handcrafted feel. The animals are stylised rather than literal, giving the box a folk art quality that works well in eclectic, bohemian, or globally inspired interiors.

Meas: 9" L; 6" T (incl lid); 3" T (w/o lid); 2.75" depth.

Please view all photos as they are part of the description. Minor signs of age and use are present, consistent with a handmade wooden piece. This vintage hand-carved basket features beautiful openwork craftsmanship but has sustained a structural fracture along the wood grain on the rim (see photos). There is a small missing wood chip at the fracture site. The pieces are currently held together but will require wood glue or stabilization for safe handling. Otherwise, the carvings remain highly detailed and intact. Sold exactly as shown (see last photo). See less
