Not long ago, there was light surface rust on the chrome, both front corners of the seat were worn through, the finish on the armrests was unevenly worn, and the vinyl was dirty and dull. It has just undergone a near-complete restoration, leaving it looking nice from all angles. To achieve this, a great majority of the corrosion was removed, and the chrome was shined up. To address the cushion wear, the seat covering was removed and turned around so that the front is now at the back, and the larger wear spot has a piece of black vinyl under it to help it blend in. The original paper-like covering on the underside was only partially intact, so a new cardboard one was made to replace it. Directly under this piece were the small staples to hold the seat cushion covering in place. These were replaced with approximately 38 nails, making it more secure than when the chair was new. Lastly, the armrests were sanded to bare wood, stained, and varnished. Top to bottom conditions: The top of the backrest is fine, save for wear at both outside corners, and the entire back and front of this piece are in very good condition. The front looks nice with very few blemishes to be found beyond a mark left by a piece of tape, and the backside has some light wear near the top. The refinished wooden arms are in excellent shape with no cracks, warping, or extensive wear. The top of the seat is nearly free of wear, and it looks fine; except for the worn rear corners. The sides, back, and front are good with no damage and little wear. The underside of the seat was viewable before the restoration, exposing the sinuous springs and burlap-type material, and it was noted that these are both fine. The chrome pieces are good for the age, with no damage and little wear to be found. There are two corresponding areas that we just couldn't get to the same condition as the rest of this piece. These are located on the top surface of the metal on both sides of the seat. There was too much discoloration to just "clean up" the chrome, so they were painted silver with a brush. Come to find out, spray paint would have been a better alternative, as they look painted with brush lines present. The only other areas found to point out are up under the armrest at the rear, where the chrome is dull. The rest is relatively good and much better than before, top to bottom, with much gleaming silver to be seen. Finally, down to the feet. Three are good, and one has a missing section but still functions properly (and is not visible when the chair is sitting on the floor). Please see the pictures for further details.
