The substantial urn-form body … Read more A striking antique silver-plated oil lamp, later professionally converted for use as an electric table lamp. The substantial urn-form body is richly decorated with an intricate allover floral pattern and a wonderfully dimensional applied bird in flight across the front. Believed to be made in Hong Kong.

The lamp retains much of its original oil-lamp character, including the brass reservoir, pierced burner assembly, gallery and adjustment mechanism. Particularly handsome are the sculptural side handles, which terminate in scrolling foliate and rosette motifs, and the ornate feet and central floral ornament at the base.

The combination of silver plate, warm brass accents and beautifully detailed naturalistic decoration gives the lamp an appealing late Victorian/Edwardian quality with a distinctly Aesthetic Movement influence. The bird and dense botanical ornament also lend it a subtle Japonisme character, making it equally at home in a traditional, English country, collected maximalist or eclectic interior.

Converted to electricity with a standard socket, harp and finial. Shown with a pleated ivory shade, which complements the elaborate base without competing with it.

Condition: Antique condition with age-appropriate wear, patination, oxidation and variations to the silver-plated finish. These characteristics are consistent with the lamp's age and history and add to its character. Please review photographs closely for condition and details. See less
