Vintage metal wall sculpture by Babs Mellor of Wichita, Kansas, retaining its original “Designs by Babs” paper label on the reverse.
This unusual figural work features a serene dimensional face surrounded by deeply modeled, flowing organic forms. The substantial cast-metal construction has a warm antiqued metallic finish in layered gold, bronze and copper tones, beautifully highlighting the hand-sculpted texture and facial features.
Measuring approximately 8.5 inches by 7.5 inches, the sculpture is surprisingly heavy for its size and has considerable dimensional depth. An integrated hanging hole on the reverse allows it to be displayed directly on the wall.
The combination of an expressive human face, organic texturing and rich metallic finish gives the piece a distinctive 1970s studio-art aesthetic, equally at home in an Organic Modern, Hollywood Regency, Bohemian or eclectic collection.
