Large-scale studio ceramic vessel combining wheel-thrown construction with a dramatically altered, asymmetrical form. The body has been folded and compressed to create deep sculptural contours that shift from every viewing angle.
A warm ivory ground is layered with charcoal, brown, celadon green and ochre glazes, gestural brushwork and visible working marks. The interplay between manipulated form and painterly surface reflects the influence of postwar California studio ceramics and Abstract Expressionism, blurring the line between vessel and sculpture.
