The work is pencil titled “Gannets” at lower left and pencil signed “Kay Peterson” at lower right.

An impression of this same composition is held in the permanent collection of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, where it is cataloged as a lithograph by Peterson.

The print has a particularly striking graphic quality, with densely worked linework and deep areas of black creating an almost woodcut-like appearance. Presented under glass with its older cream-colored matting and simple black frame, the piece retains an appealing period presentation.

A handsome example of early-to-mid-20th-century American printmaking and an especially appealing work for collectors of ornithological, coastal, maritime, or graphic black-and-white art.
