A highly decorative set of three antique Dutch Delft Blue Delftware vases, comprising a matching pair of traditional Knobbel / … Read more A highly decorative set of three antique Dutch Delft Blue Delftware vases, comprising a matching pair of traditional Knobbel / Bulbous vases and a smaller handmade Delft Blue tulip vase. Originating from Holland and dating from the early 20th century, all three pieces are individually handmade and hand-painted in characteristic cobalt blue on a warm white glazed ground.

The matching Delft Blue knobbel vases feature rounded bulbous bodies, elegant shaped necks and flared rims. Each vase is richly decorated with hand-painted floral bouquets, stylised Dutch flowers and traditional Delftware ornamental motifs. The deep cobalt blue brushwork and subtle variations in the decoration clearly reveal their handmade character.

The smaller Delft Blue tulip vase complements the pair beautifully. It has a sculptural baluster-shaped body, raised foot, curved handle and distinctive shaped opening, making it suitable for displaying a single tulip or small floral arrangement. Like the larger vases, it is completely hand-painted and handmade in Holland with traditional blue floral decoration.

The ceramics retain a beautiful glossy glaze with attractive authentic age-related craquelure, adding depth, patina and historical character. The craquelure is consistent with the age of the pieces and contributes to their authentic antique appearance.

The pair of knobbel vases is marked underneath “Delft Blue – Made in Holland – Handwork – FG” with crown emblem. The tulip vase carries the handwritten mark “Delft Blue – Handpainted – Holland.”

This decorative Delftware collection originates from a Dutch private collection and is presented in excellent antique condition. The three pieces work beautifully as a coordinated blue-and-white display on a console table, mantelpiece, sideboard, dining table or cabinet or garniture set.
