Janice Walters Boyce grew up on her family's rancheria in the Alexander Valley north of Healdsburg, CA, originally part of the Pomo's vast ancestral lands spanning Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties. "Write what you know", this work, originally JWB's master's thesis research on cradle baskets, is a testament to returning to one's roots and inspired by her experience of a bygone era. Within are personal interviews and photographs of N. California basketmakers, most whom have passed. The research foci on Pomo Cradleboards is supplemented by photographs of her own collection as well as museum and private collections.
