A striking pair of large vintage handmade copper decorative plates from Chile, each measuring approximately 15 inches in diameter.
The plates feature two different stylized floral compositions worked in warm exposed copper against a dramatically darkened black-patinated ground. One displays a bold wreath of radiating flowers and foliage, while the other features the distinctive bell-shaped copihue, Chile’s celebrated national flower, surrounded by scrolling vines and leaves.
Beautiful hand-worked details are visible throughout, including incised and engraved decoration within the leaves and flowers. The subtle irregularities of the designs add to their authentic artisan character.
One retains its original paper identification label reading:
“Flor de Chile – ‘COPIHUE’
Crece en el sur de Chile”
The reverse is also hand-inscribed “Hecho a mano” and “CHILE,” confirming handmade Chilean origin.
Wonderful displayed together as a pair of sculptural wall plates or individually as oversized decorative objects. Their graphic black-and-copper palette works especially well in Mid-Century Modern, Spanish Colonial, Latin American, Bohemian and eclectic interiors.
