Elegant italian mid-century modern cabinet and bookcase, dating from approximately the 1950s and distinguished by its architectural asymmetric composition and beautiful striped mahogany veneer.
the piece combines open display compartments with glass shelves, enclosed storage, drawers and finely executed vertically fluted wooden surfaces.
one of its most distinctive features is the projecting lower cabinet, incorporating a wide fluted drawer above two large doors. The narrower right-hand section features a vertically ribbed cabinet door and two lower drawers with elegant integrated sculpted wooden pulls.
the upper section remains particularly light thanks to its shallow depth and transparent glass shelving, creating an interesting contrast with the deeper lower volume.
the cabinet stands on slender dark metal legs terminating in aged brass feet, while the lighter-toned wooden interiors provide a subtle contrast with the warm striped mahogany exterior.
with its combination of mahogany, glass, brass details, geometric proportions and refined woodworking, the piece strongly reflects the language of italian post-war design of the 1950s.
no manufacturer's label, stamp or signature is present; the piece is therefore offered as an anonymous italian production, without speculative attribution to a specific designer.
the cabinet retains a beautiful original vintage patina, including minor wear, variations in the wood finish and oxidation to the brass elements consistent with age. These have intentionally been preserved as part of the character and history of the piece.
