Four beautifully figured curved slag-glass panels form the domed shade, with natural swirls of cream, caramel, honey, and soft peach. Unlit, the glass has a subtle marbled quality; illuminated, it comes alive with a remarkably warm amber-gold glow.
The cream-painted cast-metal shade frame is exceptionally detailed, incorporating delicate latticework, ribbon and bow motifs, and dimensional floral garlands accented in muted red, blue, and green. A slender fluted column leads to an elaborate cast base of scrolling foliage and flowers, giving this small lamp an extraordinary amount of architectural and decorative detail.
Measuring just 16.5 inches tall with a shade approximately 7 inches across at its widest point, its original boudoir scale is particularly charming. It is substantial enough to make a statement while remaining beautifully proportioned for a bedside table, writing desk, library table, console, or intimate reading corner.
The lamp is unsigned/unmarked and is therefore offered as attributed to Miller, rather than as a documented Miller piece. The underside has been refelted at some point in its history, and the attribution is based upon the lamp's design, proportions, construction, and close visual relationship to documented Miller boudoir lamps.
Condition is exceptional for its age. The lamp has been thoroughly inspected and all four slag-glass panels are intact, with no observed cracks or chips. The cast-metal shade, column, and ornate base remain beautifully preserved, with scattered paint loss, patina, and surface wear appropriate to approximately a century of age. The wiring appears to have been replaced at some point in the lamp's history, and the decorative finial is a later replacement. The lamp is functional and is shown both illuminated and unlit in the photographs.
An exceptionally decorative little survivor from the golden age of American slag-glass lighting—and one that is every bit as beautiful switched off as it is glowing. See less
