“Visage Rose,” 1950

A striking early work by French artist Guillain Siroux, created in 1950 when the artist was only around seventeen years old.

Against a deep black ground, a stylized pink face emerges from an exuberant network of pale green and cream botanical and organic forms. The restrained drawing, strong color contrasts, and almost dreamlike imagery give the composition a remarkably fresh and contemporary presence.

The enigmatic face seems to float within an imaginary garden, creating an intriguing balance between portraiture, abstraction, and poetic fantasy. Despite its early date, the work already reveals a highly personal graphic vocabulary.

Signed “Guillain Siroux” and dated “11.50” lower right.

Good vintage condition. Small original pinholes at the corners and minor age-related handling and surface marks along the margins, as shown in the photographs.
