A finely detailed 19th-century engraved view of Piazza di Monte Cavallo, now known as the Piazza del Quirinale, in Rome, by Italian engraver Gaetano Cottafavi.
The composition depicts the historic square with the Quirinal Palace, central obelisk, and monumental statues of Castor and Pollux. The lower margin is titled “Piazza di Monte Cavallo” and bears the publisher’s inscription for Tommaso Cuccioni, Via della Croce, Rome, together with “G. Cottafavi inc.” at lower right.
The engraving dates to approximately 1843 and comes from Cottafavi’s celebrated series of Roman views, Raccolta delle principali vedute di Roma e suoi contorni.
Presented under glass in a handsome traditional molded frame with a muted brown-gray mat that complements the warm, naturally aged tone of the paper. An attractive example of a 19th-century Roman veduta with strong architectural detail and considerable decorative presence.
Overall framed dimensions: 13” H x 15.25” W x 1” D.
