a magnificent two-tone cameo art glass vase, featuring a satin-finished white body with a vibrant cobalt blue center band, elegantly encircled by a precious asymmetrical cast bronze cage with two scrolled handles. This refined two-handled chalice vase is a valuable work of glass art from the second half of the 20th century, attributed to the romanian master glassmaker filip ravert, as evidenced by the handwritten signature "filip," unfortunately not clearly legible, engraved on the upper surface of the base. The work is distinguished by its elegant fusion of the delicate glass and the sculptural vigor of the metal, interpreting the stylistic canons of the art nouveau revival and the liberty style in a modern key. The piece was crafted entirely by hand using the complex cased glass technique: an opalescent white glass core was hot-bonded to a vibrant central band of shaded cobalt blue, whose artisanal blowing is evidenced by the presence of a distinctive submerged air bubble. The outer surface was subsequently acid-etched or cold-satin-finished, giving the body a sophisticated opaque "ice" effect, pleasant to the touch and capable of softly diffusing light. The attribution to filip ravert, in addition to the signature, is rigorously confirmed by the specific and unmistakable protective cage in patinated bronze (or burnished brass) that embraces the neck of the chalice. This lost-wax or sand-cast frame develops asymmetrically on both fronts, alternating a full shield profile with a skillfully open-worked section that frames the glass below, terminating at the sides in two large curled-volute handles. The master created his sculptural relief elements by casting bronze, brass, or copper. To achieve silvery, burnished, or iridescent colors, these metal "cages" were subsequently treated with galvanic baths of nickel plating, surface silvering, or the application of cold acid patinas. This explains the embossed appearance and the color and luster of the metal, reminiscent of silver. A further technical hallmark of the romanian studio art factory of the late 20th century is the perfectly flat, smooth, and uniformly acid-etched base, free of the rough pontello mark, typical of murano glass, but cold-finished using contemporary, high-quality methods. The pontello, also known as the detachment point, is the rough or circular scar left on the base of a hand-blown glass vase where the iron rod used by the master glassmaker was broken during the hot working process.

filip ravert was a master glassmaker and prominent artist of the romanian school, active primarily between the 1970s and 1990s in the renowned pantelimon glassmaking area on the outskirts of bucharest. During that period, romania experienced an extraordinary glassmaking renaissance, led by art workshops and state-owned consortia like romblast, which exported luxury products throughout europe and the united states. Ravert's signature style was consolidated precisely around the refined reworking of turn-of-the-century european models, looking with admiration to the historic french glassworks of legras and the viennese metal frames of the bohemian producers kralik and loetz. Throughout his career, ravert participated in numerous decorative art exhibitions and artistic crafts fairs in the soviet bloc countries and in the west, garnering widespread acclaim for his skill in merging glassblowing with metal sculpture. Among his most famous and well-documented creations are the series of "vine and tendril" vases (leaves & vines), the anthropomorphic bottles, and the sculptural fish in satin glass and copper, now held in numerous international private collections and considered milestones for lovers of murano glass, bohemian glass, and the twentieth century in general.
