Large handcrafted glazed terracotta vessel, most likely produced in Southern France between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The piece features a generous rounded body, a tall narrow neck and a substantial side handle. Its surface is decorated with manually applied bands and relief details, covered with a highly expressive glaze in deep olive green and brown tones.
The most distinctive feature is the irregular pale green glaze cascading freely from the neck across the body. These intentional drips were fixed during firing and give the vessel a strongly sculptural and almost contemporary appearance.
The form is visibly handmade, with natural asymmetries, uneven surfaces and variations in the glaze. The underside was left unglazed and retains the original exposed terracotta, together with surface wear and deposits consistent with age and use.
Originally conceived as a rural storage vessel, possibly for water, wine or oil, it is now particularly suitable as a decorative object, ceramic sculpture or collectible accent for a contemporary interior.
No visible signature or maker’s mark is present. The geographical origin and dating are therefore attributed on the basis of the material, construction and decorative characteristics.
