With our highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques proudly offers this exceptional antique cabinet. These particular cabinets are prized and widely sought out by antique collectors as they are quite practical and bring an elegance to any room they are placed in. Traditionally, this cabinet would have been intended to serve as an antique sideboard companion in the dining room of a two hundred year old home with classical interior elements. As we have observed in the past few decades, an increasing amount of collectors are electing to put similar cabinets in their bedrooms in place of nightstands which can sometimes be too short beside a king sized bed or not offer enough storage space. This cabinet can be placed in nearly any room of the home and be expected to work well with the existing interior.
The entire cabinet is constructed from a premium grade of mahogany and features brilliant crotched mahogany grain upon the drawer and door fronts. Masterful carving work is prominently displayed around the top with a gadrooned pattern spanning the edge along with expertly crafted lion paw feet made in exquisite detail. Around the base of the cabinet the gadrooned carving embellishment continues and contributes to the elegance and superior craftsmanship present throughout the cabinet. A pair of elaborate twin columns are present to either side of the cabinet door with finely formed capitols. The cabinet door opens to reveal a large storage interior and a single wooden shelf.
The top drawer is curved and features hand-cut dovetailed construction and a pair of lion head drawer pulls with ringlet handles. Brass escutcheons and the original locks have survived with the cabinet with each inset into the cabinet door and drawer. The case is constructed with frame and panel sides and a chamfered door panel that allows the cabinet to adjust to seasonal changes in humidity thus insuring the structural integrity of the entire piece over long periods of time. The back of the cabinet reveals centuries of undisturbed oxidation expected to be found on an antique dating from the late federal period.
The cabinet measures 25" wide x 21" deep x 38" tall.
