A striking pair of vintage Chinese porcelain court lady figures, beautifully modeled and richly decorated in vibrant famille rose-style enamels.
The set consists of two complementary figures: one elegant lady reclining upon an elaborate faux-bamboo daybed, and a standing companion dressed in a flowing pink floral robe while carrying a finely modeled umbrella and suspended basket or lantern.
The craftsmanship is exceptional throughout. Both women feature delicately modeled faces and hands, elaborate coiffures with applied flowers, long sculpted braids, jewelry and richly decorated traditional garments. The robes are finished in a beautiful palette of coral pink, rose, celadon green, cobalt blue, burgundy and ochre with raised floral and ornamental decoration.
Particularly impressive are the fragile details that have survived intact, including the slender individual fingers, applied flowers, jewelry, braided hair, umbrella and suspended accessory.
The undersides bear Chinese seal marks, with an additional hand-inscribed mark beneath the reclining figure. The markings appear consistent with Zuichun Pottery (醉春陶) and work associated with Chinese ceramic artisan Lin Weidong. The pieces are believed to date to the later 20th century and are presented as vintage Chinese decorative porcelain rather than as Qing Dynasty antiques.
The reclining figure measures approximately 10.5" long. The standing figure measures approximately 12" high. Please refer to the measurement photographs for scale.
A wonderful decorative pair for a collection of Chinese porcelain, Asian art, Chinoiserie interiors, or an eclectic traditional home.
