The substantial clear glass tankard is formed with broad vertical panels and a heavy applied handle, while the domed pewter lid is finished with a pierced geometric border and an elegant engraved script monogram. Rising above the hinge is the wonderfully modeled head of a bridled horse, complete with articulated mane, facial features and openwork detailing beneath the neck.

Both functional and decorative, the piece has a particularly strong equestrian presence and displays beautifully as antique barware, in a library or study, or within an equestrian collection.

The glass bears an impressed crowned device to the underside. Maker and exact origin remain unidentified.

Very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear to the pewter and glass. Some areas of cloudiness or haziness are present in the glass, consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks or other significant damage observed. The hinged lid and horse-head thumb lift remain intact. See less
