Vintage Chinoiserie Bamboo & Rattan Console Desk With Hand-Painted Lacquer Top
A striking vintage Chinoiserie bamboo and rattan console desk featuring an elaborate hand-painted black lacquer top. Measuring an impressive 61 inches wide, the piece has a long, elegant profile complemented by a relatively shallow 18-inch depth, making it equally beautiful as a writing desk, dressing table, or statement console.
The black lacquered top is richly decorated with hand-painted peony-like blossoms, lush foliage, birds, insects, and stylized rockwork, accented with delicate gilt detailing. The dramatic painted surface provides a beautiful contrast to the warm tones and organic texture of the bamboo and rattan base.
Five drawers provide generous storage and feature vertically reeded rattan fronts with simple brass-tone round pulls. A gracefully shaped center apron and open bamboo supports give the substantial piece an elegant, airy silhouette.
Believed to date to the mid-to-late 20th century, the piece beautifully blends Chinoiserie, Asian Modern, Hollywood Regency, and tropical design influences.
