View of Piazza San Marco is an amazing colored watercolor on paper realized in the last years of 19th Century by the Italian artist Nazzareno Cipriani (Rome, 1843-1925). Signed in watercolor on the lower right margin "N. Cipriani Venezia". This modern artwork, representing the most famous square in Venice, is realized with meticulousness and a line of an architect, in addition to a superb draftsmanship. In excellent conditions, except for two dark stripes on the higher left margin and a yellow stain on the higher right margin. Nazzareno Cipriani (Rome, 1843 - 1925) The Italian artist studied in Rome and worked at the studio of the Neapolitan painter Achille Vertunni, alongside the painters Pietro Barucci and Pio Joris, devoting himself to historical and biblical subjects. He began exposing Venetian and Roman landscapes and genre scenes of popular life. In 1870, at the Roman exhibition of Amateurs and Cultors he presented A Nun Who Watered the Flowers . Attracted by the pictorial and more chromatic complexity of Mariano Fortuny, he also adopted the technique of tempera and watercolor. He also lived in the era of Orientalist painting and for this reason he traveled to countries in northern Africa, drawing inspiration for odalisques and dark, veiled, and richly bejeweled women. He had his studio in via Margutta, next to another orientalist, Enrico Tarenghi. In 1875, he was among the ten founders of the Roman Watercolor Association , with whom he participated in exhibitions until 1913. He sent his watercolors to the Paris Exhibition of 1878. In Rome, he was present at the National Exhibition of 1883. He took part in exhibitions of the Royal Academy in London and in Rome he became a member of the Academy of San Luca.
