Issued by the German and Austrian Alpine Association, these finely printed botanical plates document rare and characteristic flowering plants of the European Alps with exceptional scientific accuracy and subtle naturalistic coloring. Edited by Dr. Palla of the University of Graz, the illustrations were based on original botanical studies by the celebrated Austrian artist Anton Hartinger and reproduced using the advanced photolithographic process developed by Nenke & Ostermaier of Dresden. The publication ranks among the finest late nineteenth-century botanical atlases devoted to Alpine flora.
