Issued by the German and Austrian Alpine Association, these beautifully printed plates illustrate native Alpine wildflowers with remarkable botanical accuracy and subtle, naturalistic coloring. Prepared under the scientific editorship of Dr. Palla of the University of Graz, the illustrations were based on original studies by the Austrian botanical artist Anton Hartinger and produced using the advanced photolithographic process developed by Nenke & Ostermaier of Dresden. The publication remains one of the finest late nineteenth-century visual surveys of Alpine flora. The set includes the following species: Dracocephalum ruyschianum (Ruysch's Dragonhead) Salvia glutinosa (Sticky Sage) Horminum pyrenaicum (Dragonmouth) Satureja alpina (Alpine Savory) Scopolia carniolica (European Scopolia) Linaria alpina (Alpine Toadflax) Scrophularia hoppei (Hoppe's Figwort) Veronica lutea (Yellow Speedwell) Each print retains its original German title and habitat , documenting where and when each species naturally occurs throughout the Alps. The combination of scientific precision and decorative elegance makes these plates equally appealing to collectors of botanical art, natural history, Alpine subjects, and historic scientific illustration. The prints work beautifully as a complete gallery wall, especially when arranged in two rows of four with generous ivory museum mats and slim walnut or black frames. Their intimate scale makes them ideal for hallways, studies, libraries, mountain homes, or contemporary interiors seeking authentic nineteenth-century botanical artwork. This is a set of eight original antique prints. Any framed or interior images are for inspiration only and not always on scale. The actual prints are small. The prints are sold unframed.
