An 18th century Chinese export porcelain barber’s bowl, hand painted in the famille rose palette. The gently scalloped circular form features the characteristic crescent-shaped cutout designed to rest comfortably against the neck during shaving.
The central decoration presents a richly detailed garden scene with flowering peonies, architectural elements, vessels and stylized foliage. The surrounding border is painted with cloud-scroll reserves, floral motifs and decorative emblems in shades of rose pink, coral, turquoise, cobalt blue, green, yellow and iron red. A fine gilt line completes the rim.
The reverse retains an attached metal backing with a hanging ring, allowing the bowl to be displayed securely on a wall. The mounting hardware appears to be a later addition.
