White porcelain vase duo designed by Bjørn Wiinblad for Rosenthal Studio-Line in 1967–68. Both pieces combine a smooth, glossy upper body with a broad band of matte bisque relief depicting stylised flowers and leaves. The contrasting surfaces emphasise the decoration while keeping the overall appearance restrained and monochromatic.
Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006) was a Danish artist, illustrator, ceramicist, and stage designer known for his richly decorative visual language. In contrast to the restrained functionalism commonly associated with Scandinavian modernism, his work drew on theatre, music, mythology, and floral ornament. His long collaboration with Rosenthal began in 1957 and brought his distinctive imagery into porcelain, glass, and decorative objects.
Rosenthal launched its Studio-Line programme in 1961 as a platform for collaborations with international artists, architects, and designers. The collection brought contemporary artistic ideas into serial porcelain production, establishing Rosenthal as one of the most progressive German manufacturers of the postwar period.
