It was named after the world's first artificial satellite that launched in 1957. It comes with an 18" extension rod (6" and 12") for taller ceilings, but for the sight in the photos attached, you are seeing the dimensions of 32" long from ceiling to tip of bulb, and 36" wide and deep from tip of bulbs. I used round bulbous bulbs for a dramtic affect. It has a high shine of chrome to it. It makes a wonderful statement piece in rooms and this wonderful chandelier is hanging in my parlor. Please note: Bulbs are Not included. I found this chandelier in an antique store in San Diego, CA. See less
