A charming and unusually large pair of Scottish Bo’ness-style pottery “Wally Dogs”, modeled as spaniels standing on all four legs. Traditionally made as chimney-piece or mantel ornaments, Wally Dogs became a beloved feature of Scottish Victorian interiors.
Each dog is finished in a creamy white glaze with hand-painted facial details, textured feathering to the coat, and gilt highlights throughout, including decorative collars.
A comparable standing Bo’ness example is illustrated in J. Arnold Fleming’s Scottish Pottery (1923), plate 42, page 188.
Measurements: approximately 16” W × 12” H each (37 cm long).
Sold as a pair. They display beautifully together and are a wonderful example of traditional Scottish decorative pottery. Vintage/antique condition with expected surface and gilt wear consistent with age; please review photos carefully for condition.
