adb was founded in zaventem, belgium in 1920 by adrien de backer, whose initials gave the company its name. The business began by producing electrical resistors before that same technology found its calling in theatrical lighting, and adb went on to build the first light dimmer for the city theater in mechelen, equipment that reportedly remained in service for more than forty years. The company grew into one of europe's leading names in theater, television and studio lighting, remaining family run until its acquisition by siemens in 1987.

this bu.5 model still carries its original hammered grey paint, worn through decades of genuine use rather than restored to a false shine, and the original beam-adjustment knob remains functional, switching between a tight spot and a soft flood.

the tripod comes from ertel-werk, a munich firm dating back to 1802, once precise enough to be called on for enigma cipher machine components during the second world war. This folding wooden field tripod was issued to the german bundeswehr.

the spotlight measures 32 x 23 x 35 cm. Mounted on the tripod, the total height adjusts from 120 to 165 cm. The fixture has been rewired and fitted with an e27 socket, approximately 3 meters of electrical cord and a switch. This piece has an attribution mark,
