Designed by Pierre Paulin in the late 1950s for Thonet France, the CM178 desk perfectly illustrates the designer's early explorations of visual lightness and functionality. Its clean lines combine an oak veneer top with a slender tubular steel frame in black lacquer, creating a balance characteristic of French modernism.
The suspended pedestal, featuring a generously sized drawer, reinforces the impression of lightness while offering practical storage. The understated lines and quality craftsmanship make this desk an iconic piece of French furniture.
The top retains a beautiful original patina with some signs of wear and age, bearing witness to its history. These imperfections are superficial and do not affect its sturdiness or everyday use. The structure is sound and stable, and the drawer functions perfectly.
