While living in Tokyo, Japan due to a corporate transfer between 1975-1978 and, again,1985-1988 I collected detailed hand-painted antique Japanese … Read more While living in Tokyo, Japan due to a corporate transfer between 1975-1978 and, again,1985-1988 I collected detailed hand-painted antique Japanese porcelains from various antique stores in Japan.
. At this time, I am beginning to list my collection of blue and white antique Imari, some colored Japanese antique Imari rice/soup bowls with lids and some Chinese antique porcelains.
. These special colored-Imari rice/soup bowls with lids are late EDO Period (1603-1868) from, perhaps, 1850's.
. The hand-painted designs including the crane with well-executed and detailed hand painting.
. Normally, you would be able to locate an uneven number of, perhaps, as much as five; however, I was able to purchase 12.
. They are in excellent antique condition; however, one lid has tiny repair, and one lid has a very tiny clip; therefore, I am pricing my collection accordingly.
. Please note, it is unusual and difficult to locate 12 matching from the same period. Also, kindly note in the last photo three of the lids the artist did not include his calligraphy/marking on the top of just three lids.
. On various sites, you will find one rice bowl with lid listed for sale or, at times, you will find five; therefore, my collection is very rare and will be priced accordingly.
. The last photo is part of a collection; however, several items have been sold.
. I will be adding the antique-colored Imari circular plates noted on my mahogany table and the small circular antique colored Imari bowl with gold edging.
. The intricate painting of the cranes and various patterns showcases the skilled craftsmanship typical of late Edo period.
. Please note, in Japan, the crane ("tsuru") is a revered national treasure and "the bird of happiness" that symbolizes "good luck, longevity, peace and loyalty.
. According to traditional folklore, the majestic bird is said to live 1,000 years and mate for life.
. Collectors are drawn to the historic significance, the artistry of the detailed hand-painted design and its decorative appeal.
. I have priced my rare and special antique collection, of "12" antique-colored Imari rice bowls, with lids, for their age, condition and quality of artistic execution.
. NOTE: This is a set of 12 rice/soup bowls with lids. With the lids the total pieces would be 24; however, selling as a set of 12. See less
