Information about Larry Vincent Garrison:
American artist Larry Vincent Garrison began his artistic career as a portraitist while serving in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Fellow Marines commissioned him to paint their portraits, providing them with personal keepsakes to send to family members at home.
Garrison’s artistic direction evolved in the early 1960s, when he turned his attention to the female figure. Beginning in 1963, the nude became a central subject in his work. His paintings explore the human form through gesture, posture, proportion, and expression, with particular attention to the individuality and presence of each subject.
Working within the tradition of figurative painting, Garrison approached the female nude as both an aesthetic and expressive subject. He understood that representations of the nude could invite differing opinions, particularly because ideas of beauty and the ideal human form are inherently subjective. Rather than allowing those perceptions to restrict his work, he continued to explore the figure according to his own artistic vision.
Garrison’s paintings reflect a sustained interest in the expressive potential of the human body and the subtle relationship between physical form, movement, and personality. His work offers a distinctly personal interpretation of the female figure while remaining rooted in the longstanding tradition of figurative and nude painting.
