A fine Federal-period Sheraton chest in walnut with poplar as the secondary wood, from a Pittsburgh, PA estate. The case features a bowed/bumped-out top drawer, relief-reeded stiles running down each side, and a gracefully scalloped apron. Diamond-shaped inlaid escutcheons add a refined decorative touch to each of the four graduated drawers, which retain their original oval brass pulls.

The chest stands on nicely turned, tapered feet with ring-turned detailing, characteristic of high-quality Western Pennsylvania cabinetmaking of the period. Warm walnut grain throughout with a rich, refinished surface.

Honest wear consistent with age and use, including small period-appropriate patches to the drawer sides and a minor patch on the scalloped apron.
