A striking signed amber and cognac art glass infinity knot sculpture, distinguished by its complex interlocking form and extraordinary serpentine, snakeskin-like surface texture. Sculptural, tactile and highly decorative, the piece has the character of a small-scale collectible work of studio glass rather than a conventional decorative accessory.
Measuring approximately 5 inches high by 5 inches wide by 5 inches deep, the sculpture is formed from substantial loops of transparent glass that twist and weave through one another in an apparently continuous knot. The composition creates an intriguing relationship between solid form and negative space, revealing a different silhouette from virtually every viewing angle.
What makes this example particularly compelling is the treatment of the glass surface. Each curving section is covered with a deeply worked scale-like ribbed pattern reminiscent of snakeskin, giving the sculpture an almost reptilian quality. The repeated texture follows the movement of the glass, emphasizing every curve and creating a sophisticated optical effect as light moves across the surface.
The rich coloration ranges from luminous golden amber and honey to deeper cognac, caramel and tobacco brown. In natural or directional light, the raised scale pattern catches individual highlights while the transparent glass glows from within, creating remarkable depth and tonal variation.
The combination of the continuous knot and serpentine surface gives the sculpture an especially organic character. There is a sense of movement throughout the piece, as though the glass has been frozen while twisting and coiling upon itself. This unusual visual quality makes it particularly appealing to collectors of studio art glass, abstract sculpture and distinctive late 20th-century decorative objects.
The expressive handling of molten glass also recalls traditional Venetian and Murano glassmaking techniques, particularly the manipulation of hot glass into elaborate sculptural forms and the use of patterned surfaces to refract and animate light. This reference is to the glassmaking tradition and technique rather than an attribution to a specific Murano workshop.
The intertwined configuration may be interpreted as an infinity or eternity knot, lending the sculpture a subtle symbolic association with continuity, connection and permanence.
Compact yet visually powerful, the piece is ideally scaled for a cocktail table, console, desk, bookshelf, pedestal or collector's cabinet. Its warm amber palette pairs beautifully with travertine, marble, bronze, walnut and lacquer, making it especially effective in Italian Modern, Organic Modern, Mid-Century inspired, Hollywood Regency and sophisticated contemporary interiors.
Three examples are currently available. The listed price is for one sculpture. Each may be displayed individually as a strong sculptural accent, or the three may be collected and arranged together to create a more substantial installation. As a trio, their repeating knotted forms and glowing amber coloration produce a particularly dramatic effect while still allowing the individual variations of each sculpture to be appreciated.
