Striking vintage 1970s American Brutalist botanical floor sculpture, handcrafted from individually formed and welded metal elements to create an abstract flowering plant of dramatic scale.
The sculptural composition features elongated, blade-like leaves with expressive hand-worked edges, visible welded details and contrasting polished and darkened metal surfaces. Multiple clusters rise organically from a slender textured stem, giving the piece wonderful movement and an almost architectural presence. Bottom 2 leaf bundles are removable for rearranging or ease of transport.
The sculpture is mounted within its original cylindrical planter filled with aggregate. The underside of the planter retains the molded FESCO 776, Made in U.S.A. mark. FESCO identifies the planter manufacturer and is not presented as the maker of the metal sculpture.
A compelling example of Mid-Century American studio metalwork, combining Brutalist construction with an organic botanical form. Particularly effective as a statement floor sculpture in a Modernist, Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, Industrial or contemporary interior.
