This exquisite antique Chinese silk embroidery features a vertical landscape composed of traditional Qing Dynasty iconography. The central panel depicts a serene garden scene with a stylized pagoda/pavilion, a willow tree, and a pair of finely detailed songbirds (chickadees or finches) foraging near flowering blossoms and mushrooms (Lingzhi).
The embroidery utilizes a variety of sophisticated techniques, including the renowned "Forbidden Stitch" (knot stitch) on the bird's heads and floral centers, along with satin stitching and laid-work for the architecture and foliage. The silk panel is set within a wide, decorative brocade border featuring repeating floral medallions in muted gold, sage, and lavender tones.
The piece is housed in a vintage mid-century "Faux Bamboo" gilt metal frame with a traditional Chinese fretwork brass hanger at the top. The reverse bears a vintage framing label from a Connecticut-based company, preserving the piece behind glass.
