Provenance & Historical Significance
This striking gold-on-black monumental brass rubbing captures Henry Rochforth, Esquire (d. 1470), an English nobleman whose original 15th-century memorial brass rests at St. Andrew and St. Mary’s Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire.
Engraved during the Wars of the Roses, Rochforth is depicted in immaculate late-Gothic plate armor. He wears a fluted German-style sallet helmet, detailed gauntlets, a protective throat gorget, and a long sword hanging at his hip, standing with a loyal hound resting at his feet.
Design & Aesthetic Context
Rendered in rich metallic gold wax against dark black paper, this piece delivers commanding vertical presence and high visual contrast. Custom framed in a warm silver/gold gilt wood frame with neutral cream double matting, it is a quintessential statement piece for Dark Academia, Gothic Revival, or Tudor Heritage interiors.
Matching Pair Available: This piece was professionally custom-framed to form a matching gallery set with Lady Margaret Peyton ("The Lace Lady," c. 1484). Contact us prior to purchase to receive a 20% bundle discount when acquiring both pieces together.
