Pair of Vintage Tiger Maple Continuous-Arm Windsor Chairs, Circa 1975
I love, love, love the warmth and the patina of the Tiger Maple wood of these chairs. What's not to love about the four vintage continuous-arm Windsor chairs with their enduring appeal and Early American craftsmanship. A super example of exceptional 20th-century cabinetmaking. produced circa1975, as indicated by the original factory stencil beneath the seats. The chairs are crafted of solid maple with beautifully figured curly (tiger) maple saddle seats that shimmer with changing light.
The sculptural continuous bow sweeps gracefully into the arms, framing a traditional spindle back that is both visually light and comfortable. Elegantly turned legs, stretchers, and arm supports provide strength and maintain refined proportions associated with classic American Windsor furniture.
The seats display dramatic ribboning and chatoyance, the qualities more commonly associated with fine musical instruments and premium cabinetmaking than everyday dining furniture. The warm honey finish enhances the natural movement of the grain, giving each chair a distinctive personality while allowing the quartet to remain beautifully matched.
Substantial enough for everyday use yet refined enough for a library, breakfast room, or collected interior, these chairs embody the Colonial Revival tradition that flourished during the second half of the twentieth century. Their generous saddle seats and gently curved arms make them surprisingly comfortable for extended conversation or reading.
Professionally cared for and structurally sound, the chairs retain an attractive vintage patina consistent with careful use over the past five decades.
