A distinctive vintage two-piece bedroom set by United Furniture Corporation of Lexington, North Carolina, consisting of a nine-drawer lowboy and coordinating five-drawer tallboy.
The set has been thoughtfully refinished in a sophisticated warm gray while highlighting its most distinctive architectural feature: sculptural “boomerang” wood trim framing the lower drawer fronts.
Previously concealed beneath multiple layers of paint, the wood detailing was carefully stripped back to the natural wood, refinished and preserved, revealing beautiful grain and providing a warm contrast to the painted casework.
The original hardware has also been preserved and refinished in matte black.
The lowboy's generous 60-inch width gives it a substantial architectural presence and allows it to function beautifully as a bedroom dresser, credenza or statement storage piece. Its coordinating tallboy provides additional storage while repeating the dramatic geometric wood detailing.
Together, the contrasting natural wood, gray finish and sculptural drawer-front treatment create a particularly distinctive vintage set that bridges mid-century character with a more contemporary palette.
Rather than replacing these pieces, the restoration celebrates their original construction and design while preparing them for their next chapter.
