This charming storage cabinet is a lovely example of a traditional Indian dowry chest, known as a damchiya. Damchiyas are elaborately carved chests built to house a bride's dowry, which often consisted of jewelry and valuable textiles. They are sometimes also referred to as bridal trunks or hope chests.
Today, damchiyas are valued as collectible antique furniture pieces and sometimes used as console tables or simply for display. Functional and beautiful, this particular chest possesses a spacious interior for storage and showcases ornate geometric carvings and unique finials.
