Traditionally known … Read more A beautifully proportioned late 19th-century French country cabinet crafted in oak and retaining a warm, naturally aged patina. Traditionally known as a confiturier, this petite cupboard form was historically used in French homes for the storage of preserves and provisions.

The cabinet features a molded rectangular top above a single framed drawer fitted with an ornamental iron ring pull. A paneled cupboard door below displays an elegant shaped and molded arch, decorative iron escutcheon and unusually attractive elongated turned iron hinge hardware.

The cabinet retains its skeleton key.

A softly scalloped apron and subtly shaped feet lend the piece a restrained Louis XV Provincial influence, while the simple plank construction visible at the back and interior reflects its country origins and utilitarian purpose.

The cupboard opens to interior shelving, providing useful storage while maintaining a compact footprint. At only 25 inches wide, it is exceptionally versatile and could be used as a bedside cabinet, entry cabinet, small bar, powder-room storage piece, kitchen cupboard or accent cabinet.

The old oak displays appealing variation in grain, color, wear and patina developed through generations of use.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, surface marks, finish variation, shrinkage and imperfections consistent with a late 19th-century piece. There is a split to the wood on the side of the cabinet, visible in the photographs. Please review the detailed images.
