Provenance & Historical Significance
This exquisite gold-on-black monumental brass rubbing depicts Lady Margaret Bernard Peyton (c. 1484), famously known to costume historians and collectors as "The Lace Lady." The original 15th-century sepulchral brass resides in St. Andrew’s Church in Isleham, Cambridgeshire, England.
Lady Margaret is portrayed wearing a luxurious, low-waisted gown of Flemish lace / Italian brocade alongside the iconic butterfly headdress (hennin)—a wire-frame veiled headpiece that defined high-society late-Gothic fashion. Her hands are joined in quiet devotion.
Design & Display Attributes
Rendered in a rich metallic gold wax on deep black rag paper, this piece offers striking visual contrast. Professionally double-matted in neutral cream tones and encased in a refined silver-gold gilt wooden frame, it makes a commanding focal point for Dark Academia, Gothic Revival, or Eclectic Traditional interiors.
