Its architectural and symmetrical design is distinguished by rich carved ornamentation inspired by neoclassical motifs. Large French bookcase in carved exotic wood, Louis XVI style, circa 1890 The front features two large doors adorned with a fine diamond-patterned metal grille, revealing several levels of shelves designed to hold books, collectibles, or tableware. The doors are framed by fluted stiles and pilasters carved with plant motifs, palmettes, rosettes, and scrollwork. The lower section is adorned with two large oval medallions carved in relief depicting trophies, consisting notably of quivers, torches, bows, arrows, and crossed attributes. These decorative elements are characteristic of the neoclassical ornamental repertoire widely used in Louis XVI-style furniture. The cornice, which is particularly elaborately crafted, features several rows of moldings, a frieze punctuated by fluting, and an openwork gallery of circular motifs. It is surmounted in the center by a sculpted pediment with volutes and foliage motifs, framed by two small turned finials. Resting on small turned legs, this bookcase possesses a monumental presence while maintaining great finesse of craftsmanship. It is equally suited to a traditional library, an office, a living room, or a dining room, where it can serve as a display cabinet or a cabinet for a collection.
