A rare Art Deco living room set with modernist accents, precursors to the Bauhaus movement, reminiscent of the work of … Read more A rare Art Deco living room set with modernist accents, precursors to the Bauhaus movement, reminiscent of the work of Marcel Breuer. It comprises three armchairs and a matching round coffee table. It brings together three armchairs (model 413) and a stamped round table (see image), the whole set having been designed by the Dutch designer Willem Hendrik Gispen, Gispen edition towards the end of the 1930s. The frames are made of brushed steel, the table has a black linoleum top, and the armchairs are upholstered in original red imitation leather. The "cantilever" metal structure of the chairs is very flexible and therefore very comfortable. The set is entirely authentic and distinguished by its remarkable state of preservation. However, there is a slight burn mark on the edge of the tray, as well as two small nicks in the coating (see photos).
