Rendered in a striking neon yellow, this sculptural lidded vessel exemplifies the bold forms and luminous color palette for which mid-century Empoli glass has become highly collectible. The wide, shallow bowl is paired with an elegant domed lid, crowned by a clear pulled-glass finial that gives the piece a distinctive circus tent silhouette. Subtle moulded bullseye optics encircle the body, creating gentle distortions that catch and refract the light while enhancing the remarkable intensity of the glass. Founded in Empoli, Tuscany, Stelvia was among the best-known producers contributing to the region's flourishing post-war art glass industry. During the 1950s and 1960s, the company became recognised for its modern decorative glass, producing vibrant tableware and decorative objects that are now sought after by collectors of Italian mid-century design. The vivid yellow colour is achieved through carefully balanced metallic oxide colourants introduced during the glassmaking process rather than uranium. Unlike uranium glass, this example does not fluoresce under ultraviolet light. Its brilliance instead comes from the density of the colour within the clear glass, giving it an almost neon appearance in natural light. Condition Very good vintage condition. A few tiny nibbles and one small edge chip are present to the inside rim, hidden when the lid is in place. There is light surface wear and minor interior clouding consistent with age and use.
